For those who are wondering or unaware of the source, Landmark Construction is conducting blasting activities on North Eagleville Road in the area of the Public Safety Complex. It is time once again for the annual test of the emergency power transfer switches in Bio Physics. Please see the information below from Facilities and let us know if there are any questions, concerns or conflicts.

The Facilities Operations Electrical Department has scheduled the automatic transfer switch preventative maintenance for the Bio Physics building on Friday May 23, 2025: 8:30am-9:30am.
The Bio Physics building has 2 automatic transfer switches. It will take ½ hour per automatic transfer switch to complete the maintenance. Each automatic transfer switch will be done one at a time.

Good Morning,

A major hot water leak was discovered this morning in the fifth floor mechanical room of BPB requiring a shutdown to repair. Damage to the fourth floor appears to be minimal at the moment and mainly in one hallway. I walked the labs that would be effected and did not see any damage but I do anticipate some to show as the day progresses. I will be checking regularly but please let met know if there is anything urgent that is found!

Please read the information below regarding an upcoming Fire Safety systems test on 6/19. I have been informed that the test will not cause any of the stairways to be shutdown.

Encore (fire Sprinkler systems) is schedule to do the 5-year standpipe flow test for Bio/Physics on 6/19/23 starting at 7am.
fire hoses will be run in staircases and down the halls to the outside and monitored to make sure they are out of the way.
Water will be run to the outside of the building and should not interrupt the building occupants.

Good Afternoon,

Please see the attached notice from Facilities regarding the switching of emergency power feed in the Bio Physics. The earlier notice that some of you may have received caused concern and confusion so an updated notice was requested from Facilities. Normal power will not be out for an extended period of time as stated in the first notice. Emergency outlets are fed by normal power until there is a power failure (and then the backup system comes online) so they will remain on as well. There will be no interruption at all on Tuesday if the work goes

The work is scheduled to be performed between 7/5 through 7/8 starting at 7am. This will require scheduling access to the rooms, many of which are restricted. Every year, Facilities Operations performs a campus-wide steam shutdown to accomplish necessary maintenance for important campus infrastructure. This year the shutdown will begin on Sunday, May 9th at 10 pm and the steam will remain off until Friday, May 14th around 3 pm. A new card reader has been installed in the South service elevator at the rear of the BioPhysics building. This reader will take the place of the key locks that are used for the second, third, fourth and sixth floors. Currently both systems are now functioning to provide floor access but on Monday the 12th around noon time the key locks will be removed and access will be granted strictly by the card reader with a UConn ID. Good Morning,

New lock hardware is being installed today on the main hallway doors on floors 2, 3 and 4 in BPB. Access is granted by swiping your newest UConn ID card on the wall mounted card readers. The new system has many benefits over the old one, the best one is that users can be added and removed more quickly and remotely. Just a quick email to inform the occupants of Biology Physics that new lock cylinders have been installed once again in the South Elevator (near loading dock). The new locks are spring loaded so you must rotate the key an eight of a turn and press a floor button at the same time. Return the key back to the horizontal LOCKED position and remove the key. Please do not force key removal in any other position as this will result in a broken key!

We have followed up with the Lock Shop and were told that the system is currently being updated. This week the autoclaves and washers on the second and fourth floors were serviced and inspected by Scientific Sterilizers in preparation for research to resume on 5/20. Unfortunately we identified a potential safety issue with the autoclave on the second floor and we will not be putting it back on line. The washer on the fourth floor will have repair work done next week and should be back up by the week of 5/25. The third floor remains functional. As part of our continuing plan to increase building security at Biology-Physics, Facilities Locksmith Shop will rekey ALL of the exterior entrance doors to BPB on May 7th starting at noon. This will render all previously issued keys ineffective. While it is not mandatory, if anyone wishes to return a key for recycling it can be left in the key drop in the door in TLS163. Moving forward from that date all building access will strictly be via the card readers at the doors with a University issued ID card, no new keys will be handed out. Those

Due to the recent changes with research being shut down for an extended period of time, the decision was made to take the autoclaves and washers on the fourth and second floors of BPB off line as of 4:00 today. This will greatly reduce the possibility of leaks/floods causing damage in the building and it is also better for the equipment. The third floor machines will remain online for use in closing operations that may be ongoing. We apologize for any inconveniences that this may cause and we appreciate your understanding.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18th at 7am, the RO/DI water systems in BioPhysics and the Engineering Science Building will be taken offline for the annual sanitization of the system. There will be a water shutdown in Biology/Physics by Facilities that will effect both hot and cold water services. The estimated time frame is 3 am-7 am on Saturday 09/28/2019.
To ensure the safety of building occupants, activities involving the use of corrosive substances, flammables and other hazardous materials and any Hot Work activities must be suspended until the pressure to emergency equipment including eye washes, safety showers, drench hoses and fire suppression systems has been restored. Work activities can resume once Facilities Operations has confirmed that water pressure has been restored.

These new cards are part of a larger initiative to update the campus-wide security infrastructure. Dear BPB Faculty, Staff, and Researchers,

Attached to this email are two emergency power shutdown notifications for Bio/Physics on:
* Tuesday, May 14th, 8am-12noon
* Friday, May 17th, 8am-4pm

You should not experience power blips or outages. Normal power in the building will not be impacted. If you have equipment currently plugged into an outlet that is labeled "emergency power," it will still operate on normal power. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to connect your Building Manager, Cheryl Dudley.

Good morning BPB Faculty, Researchers, and Staff.
