Good morning, The Dairy Bar Truck will making summer rounds today!
Peach ice cream has been released at and will be on the truck today.
Please remember to bring your university ID out to remove sales tax.
It’s that time of year for the 2026 Annual Automatic Transfer Switch Preventative Maintenance on the Storrs campus.
The Facilities Operations Electrical Department and the ASCO company will start the Automatic Transfer Switch Preventative Maintenance on the emergency power systems of the Science/Engineering/Research/Animal Care Buildings on Tuesday, May 19, 2026:5am-3pm. I am currently building the schedule for these buildings. If there is a day and time you want your building scheduled, please let me know as soon as you can. Otherwise, a schedule will go out in a couple of weeks. This maintenance will last into the
Please review the attached update regarding office trash and recycling. This adjustment to custodial services is part of our effort to make the University more environmentally friendly by reducing our carbon footprint.
Further clarification: custodial will not be emptying trash or recycling from offices; however, they will continue to enter offices once per month to vacuum and wipe surfaces.
I'm sure that many of you have heard the booms and felt the vibrations that have been occurring in the 1:30-2:00pm timeframe on a daily basis. For those who are wondering or unaware of the source, Landmark Construction is conducting blasting activities on North Eagleville Road in the area of the Public Safety Complex. The blasting will continue for approximately six more weeks. Below is a link to the notification that was posted in the Daily Digest on February 9th, 2026.
Please see included BEC Notice informing you of a 12 hour hot water shut down scheduled for Monday March 16th, 2026, in PBB. Please plan ahead for your hot water needs.
Please be aware that the cold room on 4th floor PBB has been turned off. The coil inside the unit is frozen over and must be thawed completely before the unit can be diagnosed. If you have any items inside Cold room 406, please remove promptly. I will update you when the unit is repaired.
Please be careful when moving through the building this morning. There is an air pressure imbalance with our air conditioning system, causing high winds between hallways and lobbies, lobby entrance doors, and so on. Please be careful using doors - the air pressure imbalance can make them difficult to open and cause them to slam shut if not used with care.
Please be advised that the PBB freight elevator is currently out of service. OTIS has diagnosed the issue, and parts were ordered later this afternoon. The elevator may be operational again by the end of the workday tomorrow. We will keep you updated.
Please note that the third-floor autoclave has been taken offline due to a leak affecting the lab space below. Facilities is aware of the issue and will be addressing it. In the meantime, you are welcome to use the autoclaves on the other floors.
Please take a moment to review the message below from UConn Facilities Operations.
Buildings will remain protected and monitored by existing fire safety systems during this time frame. In the event of an alarm activation, normal evacuation procedures must be followed. Fire panels inside the buildings may sound a local tone alarm for the duration of this work.
Please take note that the Torrey elevator will be offline for 3 days, this week, Thursday, Friday into Saturday. The elevator will be painted, no laughing.
Please take note that the ice makers on the 4th and 6th floors are down for maintenance. They will be back online Tuesday 7/15. Ice is available on all of the other floors in PBB.
We have received a handful of reports that some people are being denied card access to areas where they have normally been allowed. A system update was performed over the weekend that is causing these issues and a solution is actively in the works. Please continue to share your occurrences so we can pass them along to Facilities for expedited attention.
Please note that the RODI system in PBB will be serviced by our external vendor on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The system will be offline from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To ensure you have sufficient water during this period, please prepare in advance by filling carboys as needed.
Please note that the ice machine on the second floor will be offline for cleaning from tomorrow, June 5th, 2025, through Monday afternoon. In the meantime, ice machines are available on the 1st and 3rd floors for your convenience.
Please read included BEC Notice. Water is currently shutdown in PBB for emergency pipe repair. Water is scheduled to be restored by 11am.
You may encounter discolored water upon restoration of normal water services. Please run the water for 30-45 minutes to flush the system prior to calling the Operations Center at (860) 486-3113.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) arrived at our Main Accumulation Area this morning unannounced for a hazardous waste inspection. The inspectors will likely also be heading to multiple labs and work areas on campus today and over the next few days to assess the management of hazardous wastes in your labs or work areas.
As every year, in conjunction with UConn graduation and Mother’s Day, we will be conducting our annual campus-wide steam shutdown. Please plan accordingly by adjusting your autoclave schedules and apparel preparations for the upcoming week.
Please be advised that the PBB RO system will be temporarily offline tomorrow from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM for scheduled maintenance. To ensure you have an adequate supply during this period, kindly fill your carboys in advance. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your cooperation.
IT services will be upgrading network equipment starting this Wednesday 2/26, with work continuing on Tuesday 3/4 and Wednesday 3/5. If not completed, additional work may be required on the following Tuesday 3/11.
The maintenance will take place on those days between 5:30AM and 7:30AM only, and will include a brief network service disruption, as explained in the following message from IT:
Please be advised that PBB 3rd floor autoclave will be offline tomorrow February 5th from 3pm to 11pm for maintenance and repair work. Please plan your autoclave needs accordingly for tomorrow afternoon/evening.
Please be advised that the autoclave on the 3rd floor of Pharmacy is currently offline due to a maintenance issue. The necessary parts have been ordered, and the autoclave is expected to be back online by early next week at the latest
Please see included BEC Notice concerning a building wide water shutdown scheduled for tomorrow 12/18/24. The shutdown will effect all water sources so please plan accordingly if you need RODI for the day. The shutdown will begin at 4am and is expected to be restored by noontime. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Facilities is aware of and working to correct an unexpected problem with an AHU unit that is causing the fume hoods to go into alarm. Please lower the sashes on these hoods and refrain from using them until service is restored.
Sincerely,
Brett DeMarchi University of Connecticut Director CLAS Facility Services C: 959-444-6264
The Torrey elevator is officially back in service again. This last repair included the replacement of a substantial component that had been difficult to acquire.
Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused and thank you again for your patience.
Sincerely,
Brett DeMarchi University of Connecticut Director CLAS Facility Services C: 959-444-6264
The elevator in Torrey Life will be offline for repairs today and tomorrow. Otis will be replacing a major component related to the recent failures. This is a critical elevator to the science buildings, and it needs to be repaired and tested before classes resume on the 26th.
Please be informed that the freight elevator is offline for the rest of today. OTIS has ordered a mother board and expect it in tomorrow where they will promptly install it when in hand. In the meantime the center passenger elevators are up and running.
Respectfully,

Please see included BEC Notice concerning a building wide 4-hour domestic hot water shutdown scheduled for this Wednesday in order to replace valves in the system.
ANNUAL STEAM SHUTDOWN NOTICE: May 5th - May 9th, 2024 Please be advised that the annual steam shutdown is scheduled to take place from May 5th at 12:00 am to May 9th at 11:30 pm in 2024. We kindly ask that you plan your research activities accordingly based on your previous experiences with this event. Additionally, we recommend preparing for the shutdown by dressing warmly in layers to ensure your comfort during this period.
The Torrey elevator is back in operation. Otis will return again tomorrow morning for a follow up service, taking the elevator out off line from 8am to 9am.
Thank you,
Brett DeMarchi University of Connecticut Director CLAS Facility Services C: 959-444-6264
You may have noticed an intermittent smell in the pharmacy lobby and outside the building in the past week and this morning. Some have described it as a sulfur or rubber smell.
The Central Utility Plant next door is doing maintenance on the utility tunnels between our buildings, specifically on some steam piping. The smell is from the metal grinding and welding they are doing on those pipes.
Tomorrow on Tuesday 8/22/2023, the fire systems will be tested between 8am and 3pm.
They are specifically testing the "Atrium smoke evacuation" systems, and testing "stair pressurization" as well.
During testing, the large emergency windows in the 4th, 5th, and 6th floor Atrium will be opened and closed, perhaps multiple times. It may be windy in those areas and in the hallways of those floors.
The RODI (Reverse Osmosis De-Ionized, lab only) water is not functioning.
ASAP - Please check all RODI water outlets in the labs and verify they are not needlessly left open or running water down the drain unattended.
I tried to address the problem over the phone but was unsuccessful. We have a call in to the support company now for them to come and fix this as soon as possible. For now, the RODI water is unavailable.
Please take note of the RODI system maintenance scheduled for tomorrow the 16th, with the possibility of it lasting through Wednesday the 17th. It is highly probable it will not take the whole time but there is a slight possibility. There is a collection tank that most of the building is fed from which should sustain users during the mantenance period. If you feel you will have dire need of RO then please plan to fill carboys before 8am tomorrow morning. Please reach out with questions or concerns.
I wanted to touch base with all of you regarding the 2023 Annual Automatic Transfer Switch PM for the emergency power for buildings fed from either the CUP or a stand-alone generator. The Automatic Transfer switch (ATS) PMs will begin on Monday May 8,2023 and end on or about Friday June 30,2023.
Dear PBB Colleagues, Please be aware of the upcoming campus-wide annual steam shutdown. For many buildings, the shutdown will affect heat, hot water, and of course steam. Autoclaves will be down as well. Please plan accordingly concerning work-related tasks and your personal comfort during the week. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Please be informed that the TLS elevator is out of service. Facilities has been notified but we do not know when it will be back in service at this point in time.
Sincerely,
Brett DeMarchi University of Connecticut Director CLAS Facility Services C: 959-444-6264
I just wanted to pass on the word that after 17 years I have retired effective June 1. I will be working on special payroll for the School of Pharmacy for a few days a week for a time to be determined.
For the EEB and PNB Faculty and Students in the Pharm/Bio Building please contact Cheryl Dudley for any assistance you may need.
I am excited to announce the addition of Justin Heavenor to the CLAS Facilities Services Team. As you finalize your on-campus plans for the upcoming fall semester, CLAS Facility Services would like to share our plan to support academic and research activities in the sciences. As always, our mission is to assist you and your colleagues by minimizing the impact of building and systems concerns while also proactively determining ways to improve the physical environment within which learning and research can thrive. It is our pleasure to serve The College and it's vision for modern and needs based facilities, however, in this time we find it important to protect our
Beginning today the Pharm/Bio Building is scheduled for the annual testing of eyewash stations and emergency showers. The vender should identify themselves and be following the university protocol for Covid 19. If you are uncomfortable with them in your labs we can reschedule them for a more convenient time. Just tell them they'll need to reschedule and to see me.
Following further guidance from the Governor and University to further reduce the presence of staff on campus, CLAS Facility Services will suspend this week's on-campus coverage schedule that I emailed last week. I know that this may cause some frustration and confusion, but we hope you understand that the current circumstances have led us to make this difficult decision. Managers will be working from home until further notice, please continue to email or phone them with any questions or concerns. Facilities Operations will be monitoring buildings systems.
Beginning Monday, March 23rd, CLAS Facility Services will be functioning with one on-campus representative to support continuing activities in CLAS buildings. The managers and I will be maintaining our regularly scheduled hours (8am-4pm) from home on the other days (Monday through Friday). If you need general assistance feel free to contact your designated building manager, but for a quicker response to on-campus needs, please reference the schedule below:
Following the recent hire of Brett DeMarchi, CLAS Facility Services has decided to reassign coverage of the Building Service Managers. The new arrangement and contact information are as follows:

In the event that you did not receive the email below, faculty and staff ID cards are ready to be picked up at the One Card Office (2nd floor of Wilbur Cross) until August 21st. See the email below for details on picking up your card after that date.
As you may have heard, the University will begin issuing new ID cards to all faculty, staff, and students on July, 15th. These new cards are part of a larger initiative to update the campus-wide security infrastructure. Several departments within and outside of The College are working behind the scenes to minimize any possible access disruptions to this transition, however, it is very important that you not discard your current ID until you have confirmed that your new ID works on all the electronic locks you currently have access to.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 10th from 6am-8am, contractors will be removing the large yellow propane tank near the entrance of the lot between Torrey Life Sciences and Atwater. UCONN Fire and Police Departments will be on site to monitor the safe removal of the tank. This work is part of the project to redevelop of the Northeast Science Quad.
