I would like to take the opportunity of thanking you all for making my first year as solo ECE American Studies Faculty Coordinator so smooth, welcoming, and enriching. It was with some trepidation that I transitioned from being a high school teacher, to retirement, to this coordinator role with ECE. However, I should not have worried. I have had great fun and have learned much.
On behalf of the UConn Office of Early College Programs, we hope that everyone had an enjoyable April Break (yes, sadly, they are never long enough!!)
As you transition back, we wanted to make our ECE community aware of several summer UConn Graduate Course opportunities that are now available for educators who are looking to expand their student access to UConn course offerings through the ECE program. We are partnering with the Office of Summer/Winter to offer four summer courses have been intentionally developed to support graduate and coursework requirements for educators seeking approval to serve as an

Dear ECE Maritime Studies and American Studies instructors,
UConn Early College Experience and the Faculty from AMST/MAST invite you to participate in this year’s professional development workshop! Workshop participation is required once every other year to maintain certification with UConn Early College Experience. This will be the only UConn ECE American Studies or Maritime Studies workshop for the 2025-2026 school year.
I would like to take this opportunity of welcoming you all back to your ECE school year (and your own school year, for that matter) and hope that you are as excited as I am to be part of the American Studies Early College Experience "team" either again, or for the first time, as you might be new to teaching this topic in your school.
I am Karon McGovern .... getting ready to step into Laurie Wolfley's shoes as she prepares to move on from being AMST ECE Coordinator. I have been working with Laurie all year slowly getting the feel of things, and now is the time to start thinking about the Professional Development session for the next school year.
Hi all, One of your colleagues is interested in integrating into her course events associated with the 1629 sinking of the Dutch East India Company ship Batavia. Can any of you recommend resources on this incident, or can you offer any teaching tools you've used? Feel free to respond to me or directly to Kara: [log in to unmask] Thanks in advance! Laurie ________ Laurie Wolfley
I am not sure whether you are included on the distribution list that circulated the below. Anyway ... for your information.
I'll be in touch soon as I have some useful information to share that I learned from an ECE Faculty Coordinator meeting at Storrs today. I also want to start thinking about setting up site visits for a) those who are new to the program and have never had a site visit and b) those of you who haven't had a site visit in 2-3 years.
