Electronic UConn 4-H Record Keeping

UConn 4-H is excited to announce that electronic record keeping is now available within the ZSuite system. Each member should complete a Yearly Record or Alternate Yearly Record followed by the appropriate number of record sheets for their project areas using the Animal Record, Alternate Animal Record, Non-Animal Record, Alternate Non-Animal Record, Robotics, and Animal Study Sheets. Explorer 4-H members can also complete their Explorer Activity Summary sheet electronically. Completed record sheets can be downloaded for signature and submission once complete, please check with your county 4-H office for more information regarding county specific record

We are restarting the Middlesex County 4-H Advisory Committee tomorrow night at 7:00 pm at the extension center, All interested volunteers or adults who would like to participate are encouraged to attend. If you have an older teen that would like to come - please bring them along.

The 4-H advisory Committee sets the program schedule for county activities for the year, works on committees to do fundraising, scholarship selection, and event planning. As much of this has been on hold a long while - it would be a great time to jump in and help us for the 2021-2022

Fair Set-up:
All hands on deck on Saturday, July 31 to help with fair set-up. We are looking to start around 8:45 and typically finish by 11. Help is needed in both barns (Home arts & Livestock). Make sure you come wearing shoes – no open toes and bring rakes, brooms, gloves (both work ann or rubber gloves, etc.) Everyone make sure you sign the attendance form – it will either be at the fair headquarters or in the Home Arts

In light of the cancellation of the 2020 4-H Fair and understanding project work needs evaluation, we have decided, with input from the Fair Association Officer team and surveys sent to the general 4-H membership, that evaluating record books will be the primary project evaluation for this year. Our leaders have first-hand knowledge of how COVID-19 has directly impacted each member. We as staff feel strongly that this best suits your leaders to be the evaluators.

The first three months of 2020 whizzed by, but something was looming ahead in the month of March. A virus was spreading like wildfire throughout our country. By mid-march, President Donald Trump declared a national state of emergency. Soon, the entire country went into lockdown, putting a temporary end to everything, including 4-H.

Attached is the campership forms for 2020. We waited for there to be an official announcement about camp in general to send them out. We normally will entertain the 4-H camps only, but with only day camp programs being offered we will try to assist people the best we can. I am fairly certain we will not be giving full camperships to anyone, as we have not had the auction, that having been said we do want to do the best we can to help our community. Do you have an Ozobot at home or would you like to learn about Ozobots?
UConn 4-H is starting a virtual Ozobot Club!
This club will ‘meet’ through a closed Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1433030010237112) and through Zoom meetings. There will be opportunities to share what you know about playing with your Ozobot, share costumes if you dress your Ozobot up, to participate in challenges, and work together in problem-solving. We can share video of the Ozobots in action in the Zoom and with Facebook Live in the closed group.

For our 4-H Fair, the Middlesex County Food booth needs your help!

First - we are asking all 4-H families who can to bring along a 12 pack of drinks we can sell from the food booth. They can be soda, water, ice tea, sparkling water, lemonade, anything cold and refreshing. I ask you NOT bring energy drinks like monster or red bull. your contribution turns into straight profit for our booth. Donations can be dropped at the office between 8-5 weekdays until Friday August 2. They can also be dropped at the fairgrounds the night of home

It is that time of year that we humbly request for beverage donations for the 4-H fair food booth. We can take the donations on Saturday (tomorrow) at fair set up from 9:00-Noon or on Wednesday evening at Home arts check in or on Thursday evening during home arts judging at the fairgrounds. While the sponsorship campaign for the 4-H fair officially ends May 1, we understand that some people where bringing their packets to the 4-F Fair meeting on Friday. Since it was announced at the April Fair meeting that we would still accept sponsorship packets at the fair meeting this coming Friday, they will be accepted up until that time and you will get credit for them. Packets must be correctly filled out - this includes your summary sheets that state who you sold sponsorships to and for how much!

The program will include junior and senior public speaking as well as demonstrations.

4-H Day at the Big E tickets for 4-H members and registered volunteers- Pencil in the date of September 17 - that is 4-H Day at the Big E. Traditionally we receive a number of tickets for enrolled 4-H members, this year our ticket allotment was cut in half. Parking and non-enrolled family members is not provided. If you are coming by today to enter your animals or exhibits, our 4-H food booth needs soda donations!!! If you can possibly drop off a 12 pack we would greatly appreciate it. We could specifically use: Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, diet Mountain Dew, root beer, single orange juices for breakfast, water. We have plenty of seltzer, and ginger ale so avoid that. Single serve Gatorade would be great too!!!

4-H'emons have been sighted at the Durham Fairgrounds! This year the New Haven and Middlesex County 4-H Fair scavenger hunt will be based on the popular game, Pokémon Go. You do not need a smart phone or the app to play "4-H GO!" at the fair. Players will be given a sheet to record the 4-H'emons they see as they walk around the fairgrounds. When you find at least 10 you can go to the 4-H GO! Headquarters in the Home Arts Barn to claim your prize

The Middlesex County 4-H advisory will be again providing a food booth for our 4-H fair. This hard working group raises money for our county program and provides scholarships, camperships, and educational activities like skill-a-thon, food show and survivor day.

If each family that can afford to, donates a 12 pack of soda, some bottled waters, or some ice tea that would be fantastic! The more donations we get - the more total profit we make. Donated beverages are 100% profit and all that money goes to the kids!!!

We have our next fair meeting scheduled for this coming Friday, June 3 starting at 7 pm. This meeting will be held at St. Andrews Church in Northford. (Directions at the bottom of the email). If anyone is looking for community service hours, and you are available in the daytime instead of the evening, Camp will be having another clean up day. The 4-H Auction is quickly approaching (Saturday May 7, 2016)! We are asking all 4-H clubs to make a basket donation. Baskets can be dropped off any time during business hours next week at the extension center or on Friday evening until about 8:00 p.m.

If members have other items they (or their family) would like to donate we encourage them to do so. We take any new items, gift certificates or gift cards, and gently used times that are in good repair.

EAST HAMPTON--The Bad to the Bone 4-H dog club will host the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation to talk to the club and interested members of the public about puppy raising for the guide dog organization.

Members of the public are welcome. The event will be held at Paws N Heel Dog Training on 87 Main Street in East Hampton on February 12th at 5 pm. (Please leave your own pups at home that night.)

If you have double workshops requested they MUST be requested as your first choice, or there is no way to fit them in. If you request a double workshop as your 3rd or 4th choice, I often have to skip it and go to the next choice. The double workshops again are Loom Weaving and Lego Story Maker.

4-H Animal Exhibitors,

We are looking at 90 degree heat for this weekend. There will be fans in some of the areas, but it will be quite warm in the barn areas.

With this being said - please make the decision you need to about your animals entering the Fair. Once you check an animal in on Friday, it must stay in place through Sunday. We all respect whichever choice you make, but we need to be clear about the rules. If you indeed chose not to attend please email us so we know.
