It’s that time of year for the 2026 Annual Automatic Transfer Switch Preventative Maintenance on the Storrs campus.

The Facilities Operations Electrical Department and the ASCO company will start the Automatic Transfer Switch Preventative Maintenance on the emergency power systems of the Science/Engineering/Research/Animal Care Buildings on Tuesday, May 19, 2026:5am-3pm. Hello ESB and Bronwell Colleagues,

I wanted to touch base with all of you regarding the 2023 Annual Automatic Transfer Switch PM for the emergency power for buildings fed from either the CUP or a stand-alone generator.

Most of the buildings WILL NOT LOSE NORMAL POWER during this PM unless the entire building is on emergency power, neither ESB nor Bronwell are entirely on E-power. The Life safety emergency circuits like emergency lights/exit lights will be impacted. These life safety emergency circuits will lose power for approximately 1 hour with no emergency power backup from the generator/CUP. Some buildings do

Please take note; ESB's gas odorant system has been capped off. The excessive smell of mercaptan will dissipate over time lessening the overwhelming odor each time a bunsen burner is used.

Beginning at 8am, Monday July 26th Facilities will be doing preventative maintenance on the emergency power transfer switches in ESB. The work should take about 1 hour per switch, there are 3 switches. This will only effect emergency power to the building. The building will not lose normal power.

The building will have normal power . The building will not have emergency lights, elevators in some cases and exits. The building with department equipment on emergency power will be impacted. It takes approximately 1 hour per switch to PM. Please plan accordingly

There is fencing currently going up in front of ESB to prepare the area for a dig/repair which will take place near the front door of Pharmacy. Facilities Operation and Beebe Milton (contractors) will be making the necessary adjustments to the fencing to allow passage and handicap accessibility to ESB and Pharmacy, proper signage will be posted as well. We have received calls about card access being down in the buildings. Many have reported not being able to enter buildings or rooms that have card access. We have followed up with the Lock Shop and were told that the system is currently being updated. We were not made aware of this prior to the update but have been told the system is on its way back to full operation. At this time I do not have a specific time on when the system will be back up. I hope everyone is staying well and keeping safe. I don't believe this will impact most of you, but wanted to mention it in case I am mistaken. Our air compressor/vacuum system contractor will be on campus tomorrow, May 21st starting at 8am, to make a few repairs on the system. Two repairs are able to be made with the system online, but one requires a brief shutdown of the equipment. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear faculty and staff of BPB and ESB,

Beginning Wednesday, March 18th at 7am, the RO/DI water systems in BioPhysics and the Engineering Science Building will be taken offline for the annual sanitization of the system. This is an important process to help maintain the water purity levels of both building systems. The system should be restored back to services sometime in the late afternoon of Thursday, March 19th. Hello Everyone,

Just a quick heads up to let you all know the extra odorant added to the buildings main natural gas line has been isolated from the system. The extra odorant was added to the main line when the building was first built in order to saturate the new gas pipes. Natural gas to the building, provided by CNG, is infused with a standard amount of odorant. Please use the gas as you normally would, with time the excessive odorant smell will lessen and be more tolerable. We will be physically monitoring the gas on a weekly basis for

Good afternoon,

The power has been restored to the building. We don't have all of the information on what caused the outage. At this time, the elevators are working alternately, Otis has been dispatched. The lab exhaust fans are currently offline, Facilities has been notified and are in the process of moving through the science area to reset tripped building systems. With the lab exhaust fans down the pressure in the building is off so doors in the stairwells will be difficult to open and fume hoods may be alarming. Once the fans have been reset the issues should correct

Good afternoon all,

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23rd, from 4am to 8am the cold and hot water in the building will be shut off to make an urgent repair. The toilets will still be working during this time but sinks will be offline. Please email me with any questions or concerns.
