Good Afternoon, Fellow ECE Community Members:

Education is one of the few professions in our society that begins anew each year in the familiar landscape of the ‘unknown’. For each of us this ‘unknown’ means something different. Colleagues and Friends,

As we close out the 2021-22 school year, the Office of Early College Programs would be remiss if we did not recognize the incredible undertaking that this academic year has been for our Faculty, UConn ECE Instructors, Site Representatives and most importantly our students. In a year that for many felt more challenging and unpredictable than the previous two, in every instance, members of the UConn ECE community rose to the challenge to ensure that our program delivered on our promise of access to, and preparation for, post-secondary coursework.

On behalf of all of us in the UConn ECE Program Office, I would like to wish you happy holidays and a joyous New Year!

We cannot thank you enough for your flexibility, incredible efforts, and positivity as we worked together to rebuild in-person course schedules this year and implemented the new student registration system. Dear UConn ECE Community,

I am emailing to announce that I will be stepping down from my position on November 18th and leaving the University. I have enjoyed my 16+ years in the Office of Early College Programs, leading UConn Early College Experience, and working with you. I am stepping down because I now live at a distance from the University and cannot be on campus to fulfill my duties as director. It has been a great joy working with you to build our shared vision of offering excellent educational opportunities to students and instructors. I want to thank you

Dear UConn ECE Community!

Welcome back to the school year! I hope you have settled into your classes and you feel the excitement that comes from this magical time of the year. As you wrap up the year and start your much needed break, I wanted to send you a message of gratitude for your hard work, determination, and delivery this year. It would be hard to summarize the efforts of the year in an email, but as I reflect on the character of my interactions with our great UConn ECE Community, I would summarize them as follows: We didn’t make excuses, we made things happen. Hello All,

Three weeks ago I advertised a job shadowing opportunity at the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, for your high school students (ECE and all others). Due to the high level of interest, but also the many students and classes that could not attend, they are running the opportunity again this Thursday evening for ALL interested students (see attached). I think this is a wonderful opportunity and I am happy to share it with you. All questions should go to Mike Lambert at: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

A virtual meeting will be held next week - March 31st RSVP required. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about summer job opportunities, build their work resumes, learn about a career with a mentor, and get outdoors this summer (the perfect prescription after virtual learning). Dear UConn ECE Community,

I hope you are doing well and adjusting to this new environment. It's been a while (a week) since last I wrote and I wanted to send you a few updates on credits, assessments, and grading for UConn ECE. While I am still waiting on a few more schools to respond to the survey I sent last week, as of this moment we have a 96 percent response rate and all of those who have responded have switched to some form of remote learning. Dear UConn ECE Community,

I have been receiving many questions about pass/fail lately and wanted to clarify a few concepts concerning this grade. First, there is still no clear policy on pass/fail for UConn ECE students yet, because there are issues like year-long courses to be resolved as well as issues of advising students on how and when to use pass/fail. To be clear, pass/fail is not an option that you as a school or class would decide, it is an option that a student would use. Moreover, if it an upper level class that applies to a major (we

Dear UConn ECE Community,

I wanted to send a quick message about the Pass/Fail email that was sent from the Provost's Office to all teaching faculty yesterday. If you did not receive the email, in short, the email said that Pass/Fail options were approved by the University Senate for Spring classes, which students could decide to implement up to the last day of class. The schools and colleges would decide how this would be implemented. We will be starting our conversations with the schools and colleges at UConn shortly to determine how this would be used by our UConn ECE

Teachers who may be interested in applying for certification to teach a UConn course in their high school must submit a complete application to my attention in the ECE office by January 31, 2019. Good morning all,

We have received feedback from our partners regarding our "first come, first served" RSVP requirement for the Globalization Conference. I understand this adds pressure to our partners to submit something that may not be fully explored or thought out. After further review, we have decided to update this requirement and accept team submissions from now through January 21, 2019. All submissions must include the requested country, research topic, and research question for inclusion in the lottery. Nine teams will be selected to participate. A lottery will occur if more than nine teams apply to compete. All teams

The reports focus on partnerships between high schools and the community colleges, because community colleges tend to have a more focused mission which involves specific pathways that lead to specific jobs – jobs for the future. Globalization not only blurs national boundaries to the trade of goods and capital, but also to the reasons behind the movement of people from regions of rapid population growth, systemic oppression, economic depression, and violent conflict. What is the role of globalization on migration? How does it push or pull
